PENNSYLVANIA CHAPTER Mission

Welcome to the Pennsylvania Chapter of The Girls Computing League!

Our mission is to inspire and empower girls, especially those from underrepresented and underserved communities by expanding their awareness and knowledge in the world of computer science. Careers in tech offer some of the most competitive salaries, yet women are sorely underrepresented in this field. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects computer science research jobs will grow 19% by 2026. Yet, women currently earn only 18% of computer science bachelor’s degrees in the United States. We aim to change that.

By providing opportunities to explore and learn about computer science and coding through our interactive events and programs we aim to support the lack of computing education that shortchanges all kids, especially girls and youth of color. Why? Because we believe the world needs and deserves the innovations, solutions, and creations they have to offer.

Our goal is to help provide girls with the early technology and computing exposure and experience they need to become the trailblazers of tomorrow!

Pennsylvania Chapter Leader

Claudia Hernandez

Hello!! My name is Claudia Hernandez. As the president of the Pennsylvania Chapter of GCL my goal is to provide a welcoming and encouraging environment filled with opportunities for you to learn, explore, and grow in tech. I am a high school senior attending Moravian Academy in Bethlehem, PA who is passionate about coding, AI, NASA, and helping girls and minorities make an impact in the field of computer science. I’m currently interning virtually at NASA , and the president and founder of two coding clubs -one at school and the other for girls 7-17 in my community. In my spare time, I enjoy reading Shakespeare, singing, and performing in musical theater. I look forward to having you join us!

Girls Computing League works hard every day to help students achieve their dreams of entering a technical career field. We work with companies both to create higher education opportunities for students and hunt for mentors willing to support the next generation of computer scientists. However, we are reliant on our global community of enthusiasts, students and activists to bring about true change.
